Little River Falls Overlook

Little River Falls marks the point where the Little River drops 45 feet over a wide ledge and begins carving its way through one of the deepest canyons east of the Mississippi. The overlook sits just off AL-35 near Fort Payne, managed by the National Park Service as part of Little River Canyon National Preserve, and there is no admission fee. A short paved path leads from the parking area down to a railed observation deck where you can look straight into the cascade and out over the canyon rim — a genuinely easy stop for any riding kit.

For riders, this is the northern terminus of the Little River Canyon Rim Parkway (AL-176), so it works naturally as a turn-around after running the 16-mile rim road. One practical heads-up: the lot draws a high volume of visitors and can fill early on weekends, so an early arrival is worth planning for. The overlook is open year-round, and water volume swings noticeably with the seasons — winter and early spring tend to run the falls fuller, while late summer reveals more of the underlying rock.
