US-44 Litchfield Hills Corridor

The northwestern stretch of US-44 from the New York border at Salisbury east through Canaan, Norfolk, and Winsted covers roughly 25 miles of hilly, forested Litchfield County terrain. The road climbs through dense hardwood canopy, passes the center of Norfolk (trailhead for Haystack Mountain State Park off adjacent CT-272), and descends into the Winsted valley with the Mad River Dam visible roadside. Multiple state parks flank the corridor, and the route pairs naturally with CT-272 and CT-341 into a full northwest-corner loop.
