Cape May–Lewes Ferry Terminal (Lewes)

The Cape May–Lewes Ferry is the water segment of U.S. Route 9 — the ferry's own site notes that the crossing is "actually considered Route 9," making it the only way to complete the full route at sea level. That framing is more than marketing: the ferry runs a dedicated motorcycle information page covering loading procedures, group rates, and safety steps specific to bikes. On the vehicle deck, motorcycles board first-come, first-served and are directed to the forward section; once aboard, crew parks bikes sideways with a wooden block behind the tire, and in high-wind conditions riders may be asked to stay with their bikes.

The ferry actively ties sailings to the motorcycle calendar. Around Memorial Day it aligns with the Rolling Thunder Rally, and each September it schedules motorcycle-only crossings for riders heading to Ocean City Bike Week. October is designated Motorcycle Rider's Month, with special promotions running all month. Group rates are available and worth inquiring about in advance, particularly for larger clubs.

The Lewes terminal itself offers some time before or after a sailing. Grain on the Rocks pub sits inside the terminal building and serves food and drinks with bay views — a practical spot to wait out a crossing window or decompress after one. The ferry operates year-round, though reservations are recommended on weekends, holidays, and through summer, when demand is highest.
