A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway

A 72-mile two-lane road along Florida's northeastern Atlantic coast, running from Ponte Vedra Beach south to Gamble Rogers State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach. Designated an All-American Road in February 2021 — one of only two in Florida — and a National Scenic Byway since 2002. The route hugs a narrow barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, passing through Ponte Vedra Beach, Jacksonville Beach, the St. Johns River ferry crossing at Mayport ($6, departs every 30 minutes), historic St. Augustine (Castillo de San Marcos), Anastasia Island, and Flagler Beach. Mix of oceanfront exposure and shaded hammock canopy.

Bahia Honda State Park — Old Bridge Overlook

Bahia Honda State Park at 36850 Overseas Highway (MM 37, Big Pine Key) contains the remnant of Henry Flagler's 1912 Overseas Railroad bridge — a 5,055-foot structure that was hailed as an engineering marvel of the Western Hemisphere. A trail leads from the park up onto the elevated deck of the old bridge, providing a panoramic 360-degree view of the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the chain of keys stretching in both directions. The park also has three distinct beaches rated among the best in Florida. Entry fee is required ($8 per vehicle). The old bridge reopened for pedestrian and cyclist access following restoration work.

Big Bend Scenic Byway (US-98) — Gulf Coast

A 220-mile loop from Tallahassee along the Gulf Coast through Florida's largely undiscovered Big Bend region, where the state's northern coast curves westward. The primary motorcycle segment follows US-98 from Apalachicola east through Carabelle, Panacea, and Wakulla County — roughly 40 miles where the highway hugs the coastline closely with open Gulf views and light traffic. The loop also includes a forest trail section on SR-20 through the 632,000-acre Apalachicola National Forest. The Apalachicola estuary produces 90% of Florida's oysters. Known locally as Florida's Forgotten Coast for its absence of high-rise development.
