Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area

Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at 3100 S. Oceanshore Boulevard (A1A) in Flagler Beach marks the southern terminus of the A1A Scenic and Historic Coastal Byway, one of only two roads in Florida designated an All-American Road by the Federal Highway Administration. The park sits directly between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, with pull-outs offering unobstructed ocean views. Named for folk singer and Florida resident Gamble Rogers, who died rescuing a swimmer in 1991. Popular beach access and restroom facilities make it a natural break point on an A1A ride.

The southern bookend of the best A1A stretch — park at the ocean-side lot, walk the dune crossover, and look back north at six miles of undeveloped coastline with no condos in sight. One of the few places on Florida's east coast where the sea horizon is completely unobstructed from road level.
