Southernmost Point Buoy — Key West
The Southernmost Point Continental U.S.A. buoy at the corner of South Street and Whitehead Street in Key West is the iconic painted concrete landmark that marks the end of the Overseas Highway run from the mainland — 90 miles from Cuba, 126 miles from Miami. Installed by the City of Key West in 1983, the monument draws a constant stream of visitors year-round. Note: as of September 2025, a temporary buoy replica was placed at Duval Pocket Park (1400 Duval St) while seawall and roadway repairs are underway at the original corner. Check local sources for current status before visiting.
The natural finish line of any Overseas Highway / US-1 Keys run. Rolling up to this marker on a motorcycle — after 113 miles of bridges and open water from Key Largo — is one of the most satisfying endings to a ride in the American South. Photo queue is real; arrive early or late in the day.
