The Everglades section of US-41 (the Tamiami Trail) runs approximately 100 miles from Naples east to Miami through the Big Cypress National Preserve and Everglades National Park buffer. Opened in 1928 after 13 years of construction, it is a two-lane road and National Scenic Byway designated for its unique environment. The scenery is the draw: wide-open sawgrass prairie, cypress domes, alligators sunning on canal banks, and almost no development for 50 miles through the Miccosukee section west of Florida City. Contrast to I-75 (Alligator Alley) is stark — same distance, entirely different character. Miccosukee Indian Village and Shark Valley (Everglades NP) are notable stops.
