Iowa Highway 64 — Grant Wood Scenic Byway

Iowa Highway 64 runs 64 miles east from Anamosa (US-151 interchange) through Jones and Jackson counties to the Dale Gardner Veterans Memorial Bridge over the Mississippi near Sabula. The western half of the corridor is officially designated the Grant Wood Scenic Byway, named for the artist of 'American Gothic' who was educated at Antioch School, which the highway passes near Anamosa. The route delivers rolling limestone-bluff farmland, three rivers (Wapsipinicon, Maquoketa, Mississippi), wetlands, and three Iowa state parks. Towns along the way — Wyoming, Monmouth, Baldwin, Maquoketa — are small enough to have fuel and a diner. The Rider Magazine northeast Iowa loop commonly uses IA-64 as the return leg from the Mississippi River.
