Mount Hosmer City Park Overlook

The Midwest's largest annual motorcycle rally, staged at ABATE Freedom Park, 2507 160th Ave, Algona, IA 50511 (3 miles east of Algona on US-18, then 4.3 miles north on County Rd P56). Running for over 40 years under ABATE of Iowa's sponsorship, the event draws riders from Iowa and neighboring states as far as Canada and the Pacific. Three days of live music (14 bands historically), a bike show and rodeo, sled pulls, tattoo contest, mud wrestling, burnout pit, gator races, vendors, food, beer, and free tent camping with fireworks. The 42nd annual rally ran July 2–4, 2026.

A National Park Service site preserving more than 200 prehistoric earthen mounds built by pre-Columbian Woodland cultures, mostly between 350–1400 CE. Located at 151 Hwy 76, Harpers Ferry, IA 52146, three miles north of Marquette on the Great River Road. The visitor center sits on a bluff above the Mississippi, and the mound groups — many shaped like bears and eagles — are accessed via hiking trails through forested ridgelines with river views. Entrance fee applies. Visitor center open daily 9 am–5 pm.

Northeast Iowa's Driftless corner was never flattened by glaciers, leaving tall Mississippi River bluffs and steep wooded valleys. The roughly 68-mile Waukon loop links IA-76, IA-26, and US-52, with bluff-top climbs and hairpin descents down to river towns like Lansing and McGregor.
