Naniboujou Lodge
Naniboujou Lodge sits at 20 Naniboujou Trail, Grand Marais, MN 55604, on the Lake Superior shoreline approximately 15 miles east of Grand Marais via MN-61. Built in 1929 as a private sportsman's club — with Babe Ruth and Jack Dempsey among its founding members — the lodge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its Great Hall features a 200-ton stone fireplace and vivid Cree-inspired painted murals covering every surface of the high-vaulted ceiling, considered one of the most unusual dining rooms in Minnesota. The restaurant serves locally sourced breakfasts and lunches in season. There is intentionally no Wi-Fi, cell service, or television on the property.
A genuine historic landmark 15 miles past Grand Marais on MN-61 — the Great Hall alone justifies the stop, and the lakeside setting is spectacular. Riders who want to overnight at the far end of the North Shore before turning around find it a rare find: a historic inn with a real restaurant where the remoteness is the point.
