Chimney Rock National Historic Site

A solitary spire of volcanic ash and clay rising more than 300 feet above the North Platte valley, the most-mentioned landmark in Oregon Trail diaries. Designated a National Historic Site in 1956. The Ethel and Christopher J. Abbott Visitor Center, 1.5 miles south of US-92 near Bayard, houses trail history exhibits and is operated by History Nebraska.
