Millbrook Village

Millbrook Village sits where Old Mine Road meets Route 602 inside the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, and it reads as a genuine surprise when you round the bend — a cluster of 19th-century structures materializing out of river-corridor forest. The village has a real history underneath the restoration: a gristmill was established here in the 1830s, and a small community of farmers, tradespeople, and families grew up along both sides of the road. When the proposed Tocks Island Dam project in the 1960s threatened the area, many of the remaining and neighboring structures were moved to higher ground for preservation; the National Park Service and the Millbrook Village Society worked together to reassemble what you see today.

The grounds are open from dawn to dusk year-round at no charge, so stopping for a walk-around fits naturally into any ride on Old Mine Road. What you'll find is a mix of original survivors and relocated buildings — a mill, a church, a schoolhouse, a general store, outbuildings — along with period farm equipment spread around the site. Staffing varies by season and volunteer availability, but the village is worth a stop either way. The fall Millbrook Days event brings the place fully to life with craft demonstrations, though check current scheduling before counting on it. Pavement here is straightforward, but Old Mine Road is a narrow two-lane corridor and deer crossings are common, especially in lower light.
