Pine Barrens — CR-563 and NJ-72 Loop

A 43.87-mile stretch of County Route 563 runs north from Egg Harbor City (Atlantic County) through the heavily forested Pine Barrens to Route 72 near Chatsworth (Burlington County), crossing the Mullica River and skirting Wharton State Forest. The road is designated part of the Pine Barrens Byway. Combined with NJ-72 (the main east-west Pine Barrens connector), it forms a quiet, flat loop through miles of cedar, pine, and cranberry bog with almost no traffic. The character is the opposite of the northwest Highlands — open sky, arrow-straight sections, zero elevation — and is the defining Pine Barrens ride.
