Sandia Crest House

Perched at 10,678 feet at the summit of NM-536, Sandia Crest House sits at the western terminus of the Sandia Crest Scenic Byway after 21 hairpin switchbacks through Cibola National Forest. The facility includes a gift shop, café, and handicap-accessible observation deck with a 360-degree panorama spanning Albuquerque, the Rio Grande valley, and the Jemez Mountains to the west. On a clear day the view stretches over 100 miles. The elevation gain from the base is more than 4,500 feet across 13 miles — one of the most dramatic summit rides in the Southwest.

The 21-switchback climb to over 10,600 feet on smooth pavement is a classic ABQ day ride — the summit overlook and café make it a proper destination, not just a turnaround.
