Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service visitor center for the 59,020-acre Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, located on State Highway 115 near Cache, Oklahoma. The refuge hosts one of the oldest and largest conservation bison herds in North America (600+ animals), plus Texas Longhorn cattle, Rocky Mountain elk, prairie dogs, deer, and more than 240 bird species. The visitor center provides refuge maps, wildlife viewing tips, and a bookstore. The Wichita Mountain National Scenic Byway runs through the refuge interior and is a designated motorcycle scenic route.
Entry point for one of the most unusual motorcycle rides in the southern plains — paved refuge roads winding through boulder-strewn granite hills with bison and longhorn cattle potentially blocking the lane. The visitor center staff can advise on current wildlife concentrations and road conditions.
