Aunt Sue's Country Corner

Aunt Sue's Country Corner has been a fixture on SC-11 since 1984, when founders Lloys and Sue Ritter opened a small sandwich stop along what is now the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway. Current owners Ed and Teresa Lewis have expanded it into a multi-building village spread across the property at 107 Country Creek Drive — the restaurant anchors it, but riders will also find an ice cream parlor, a pizza spot, and a cluster of gift shops within walking distance of where they park.

The food runs to Southern comfort staples — fried chicken, pot roast, mac and cheese, and the like — plus weekend buffets and a Friday seafood night that draws a crowd with live bluegrass on the porch. The ice cream parlor is a legitimate destination in its own right, especially after a warm afternoon on the mountain roads. The whole setup is designed for lingering: the grounds have an unhurried, country-village feel that makes it easy to kill an hour before the back half of the loop.

The location does the heavy lifting for riders. Sitting just off SC-11, two miles east of Table Rock State Park, it falls almost exactly at the natural midpoint of the Foothills run — far enough in that you've earned a stop, close enough to the turnaround that you're not backtracking. Hours vary by season, so it's worth a quick check before you plan your day around it.
