Restaurant and full bar open mid-May to mid-September, serving steaks and wild Alaska seafood with nightly specials. Cabins with mountain views, a hot tub, and a deck telescope aimed at Dall sheep on the ridge above. Official MotoQuest Alaska tour stop.

Sitting at Milepost 113.5 on the Glenn Highway, roughly halfway between Palmer and Glennallen, Sheep Mountain Lodge has been taking in travelers since 1946. The restaurant and full bar run from mid-May through mid-September, serving fresh Alaska seafood and house-cooked meals — the kind of food that stands out sharply on a highway corridor not known for it. A deck telescope is trained on the ridge above the lodge where Dall sheep live year-round; in summer they show up as white dots against the rock, moving slowly enough that the scope earns its place.

Accommodations range from private handcrafted cabins overlooking the Matanuska River Valley to guesthouse rooms with shared facilities — multiple tiers, so a rider on a tight budget and one who wants a full kitchen both have options. The hot tub is shared but reservable, which matters after a long day in the saddle. Cell service is poor out here, but the lodge has Wi-Fi. The surrounding trail network covers over 12 miles and connects to berry patches, wildlife corridors, and views back across the Talkeetna and Chugach ranges. If you want more than a meal and a bed, the lodge can arrange glacier hiking, ATV tours, and helicopter flightseeing that departs from the property — none of that is required, but it's there if the weather holds and the schedule allows.

A rare full-service roadhouse on a remote stretch of the Glenn — hot food, cold beer, a bed, and Dall sheep on the hillside. MotoQuest uses it as a tour waypoint for a reason.
