Lochsa Lodge

Sitting alongside the Wild & Scenic Lochsa River at the small ranger-station community of Powell, this hand-scribed log lodge is one of the only full-service stops along a long, canyon-hugging stretch of US-12. The fuel station runs pay-at-pump around the clock with unleaded, mid-grade, diesel, and ethanol-free premium — a genuine planning consideration given that services are sparse for a significant span of riding in either direction. Cell service is also absent for well over an hour in either direction, so this is a good place to check in, top off, and sort out the next leg.

The restaurant and tavern serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, with scratch-made comfort food — burgers, soups, steaks — and local Idaho and Montana beers on tap. If you're staying the night, the lodge offers rustic cabins as well as more modern rooms, some with fireplaces and private decks. The country store covers basic supplies and to-go drinks. It's open year-round, and the mix of fuel, food, a cold beer, and a place to sleep makes it a natural anchor stop on any US-12 run through the Lochsa corridor.
