Smoky Valley Scenic Byway (US-283 / K-4)

A 60-mile horseshoe-loop State Scenic Byway in Trego County running on US-283 south from WaKeeney, east on K-4 through Brownell, then north on K-177 back to I-70 near Ogallah. The route dips into the Smoky Hill River valley past Cedar Bluff State Park and Reservoir — the focal point of the byway — through rolling chalk bluffs and creek-cut terrain that sits between the High Plains to the west and the Smoky Hills to the east. Quiet two-lanes with minimal traffic and the reservoir as a natural turnaround point.
