On the route

The overlook caps the 9-mile Brockway Mountain Drive off M-26, perched 735 feet above Lake Superior near Copper Harbor. From the top the view runs a full 360 degrees, with Isle Royale visible on a clear day — the drive is billed as the highest between the Rockies and the Alleghenies.

For riders it is the crowning detour of the Keweenaw M-26/US-41 loop, a side spur worth taking for the saddle-top vantage alone. It is a favored spot for watching freighters on the lake and, when conditions cooperate, the aurora.

The drive is seasonal and snowbound in winter, so plan a warm-weather visit and save it for a clear day to get the most out of the climb.
