Rock Creek Vista Point

Rock Creek Vista Point sits along the Beartooth All-American Road (US-212) within the Custer Gallatin National Forest, roughly 19 miles south of Red Lodge. The pull-out is large, fully paved, and equipped with restrooms — practical details that matter when you've been climbing switchbacks and want a clean stop without a long scramble to find one. A short interpretive trail leads to the overlook, and the path is wheelchair accessible.

The view from here looks down into Rock Creek Canyon and out across the Hellroaring Plateau, with the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness filling the distance. The highway climbs well above this point on its way to Beartooth Pass, but this stop gives riders their first real read on the scale of the country they're riding into — wide valley floor far below, ridgelines stacking up in every direction, and the road visibly threading its way higher ahead. Interpretive signage at the overlook adds geological and natural-history context for anyone who wants it.

One practical note: the highway is seasonal, typically open from mid-May through mid-October depending on snowpack, and weather can shift quickly at this elevation. It's worth checking road conditions before heading out, particularly early or late in the season.
