Toadstool Geologic Park
An otherworldly badlands of mushroom-shaped clay pedestals capped with sandstone slabs, formed 38–24 million years ago — geologically related to the South Dakota Badlands. Located in the Oglala National Grassland north of Crawford. Open 24 hours, free, with a 1-mile interpretive loop trail and primitive camping. Fossils of entelodonts and hyaenodons have been found here.
A seldom-visited Nebraska badlands that earns its 11-mile dirt/gravel approach from Hwy 2 — high-clearance or ADV recommended, but the formations are genuinely striking and unlike anything else in the state.
