Lincoln Highway Experience Museum
A museum dedicated to the Lincoln Highway — America's first coast-to-coast road, built in 1913 — located at 3435 State Route 30 E, Latrobe, PA, midway between Latrobe and Ligonier in the Laurel Highlands. The museum sits right on US-30 — the original alignment of the Lincoln Highway — in the stretch between Latrobe and Ligonier in the Laurel Highlands. The building itself has history before you even step inside: the historic Johnston House, which has stood on this spot for more than 200 years, forms the core of the museum, joined by a modern wing that holds the larger exhibits.
Inside, the tour covers the full arc of road-trip culture that grew up around America's first coast-to-coast highway. Visitors use an audio wand to move through the exhibits at their own pace, and the main hall in the newer wing houses full-scale pieces: a restored tourist cabin, an old gas station setup, and a Packard automobile. The anchor of that room is Serro's Diner, a 1938 diner that has been fully restored and is functional — pie and coffee are included with admission. For a rider who has been rolling Route 30 all morning, that alone is a reasonable reason to pull off.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, April through November. It's a seasonal stop, so check current hours before building it into a route.
