The Peachoid
A 135-foot-tall peach-shaped water tower visible from several miles along I-85 between exits 90 and 92 in Gaffney, at the northeastern end of the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway. Built in 1981 by the Caldwell Tank Company, the Peachoid holds one million gallons and was painted to look like a giant Georgia Belle peach — complete with stem, leaf, and cleft — to celebrate Cherokee County's status as South Carolina's leading peach producer. It gained renewed national notoriety from its appearance in the Netflix series House of Cards. The tower is viewable from Peachoid Road off I-85 exit 92; roadside pull-off available.
The most photogenic roadside quirk on the eastern approach to SC-11 — a million-gallon peach-shaped water tower that doubles as a landmark that tells you you're in the right place to start the Cherokee Foothills loop.
