Rimrock Highway — SD-44 West
The western Black Hills segment of South Dakota Highway 44, running approximately 16 miles from Rapid City westward to US-385. Known locally as the Rimrock Highway, this stretch climbs from Rapid City's 3,400 ft elevation to nearly 4,500 ft through limestone canyon walls with continuous twists, elevation changes, and forested terrain in Black Hills National Forest. Less trafficked than the Peter Norbeck corridors except during the Sturgis Rally; passes Pactola Reservoir and access to Buzzard's Roost overlook.
