Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway (ID-21)
Lowman to Stanley over Banner Summit (7,056 ft). The Banner Summit section is the closest Idaho gets to true tight technical — steep ascents, "jigsaw ridges, twisted corners." Best mid-May to mid-October. Honestly milder than Western flagship technical roads.
What you'll hit along the way.
Rider-verified stops, overlooks, fuel, and the corners worth knowing about — in the order you'll meet them.
Grayback Gulch
A quiet lodging stop in the pines roughly a third of the way into the byway, good for a break or overnight stay.
Edna Creek
A midpoint campground and lodging area nestled along the creek corridor of the South Fork Payette River.
Lowman
A small mountain town offering fuel, food, and services before the final stretch of the byway.
Kirkham Campground
A popular stopping point near natural hot springs along the South Fork Payette River, suitable for a rest or overnight camp.
