Redfish Lake Lodge

Robert Limbert built the original lodge in 1929 on 16 acres of U.S. Forest Service permitted land on the north shore of Redfish Lake, a glacial lake set against the granite spires of the Sawtooth Mountains. The structure has seen only modest changes since then, and the main lodge still houses the front desk, Limbert's restaurant, and the Rustic Lounge on the first floor — with historic lodge rooms on the second. The property runs seasonally, typically late May through early October, and accommodations range from those second-floor lodge rooms to larger family cabins, all within walking distance of the water.

Limbert's is open to the public, not just overnight guests, which matters for riders on a shorter stop. The kitchen leans on Idaho-grown ingredients and specializes in salmon, trout, and wild game, with a wine list built around Pacific Northwest producers. For a quicker break, the Lakeside Grill operates outdoors, and Two Guns Cafe handles coffee and espresso near the general store. The dining room's lake-facing setting is the draw — granite peaks filling the window while the water sits right outside.

The spur road off ID-75 dead-ends at the lodge, so there's no through-traffic pressure and the pace slows considerably once you arrive. The marina rents watercraft if time allows, and a shuttle boat crosses to trailheads on the far side of the lake. Smoke from late-summer wildfires can periodically affect visibility in the basin, worth knowing before building an itinerary around the mountain views.
