Great River Road (LA-18 / LA-1)

Louisiana's designated Great River Road traces both banks of the Mississippi from the Arkansas border south to Venice, with the most scenic riding along LA-18 on the west bank between Donaldsonville and New Orleans. The two-lane road runs along the levee through sugar cane fields, past plantation gates and antebellum homes, with the river visible through the earthen berm. LA-1 covers parallel stretches on the east bank, including the levee corridor through Plaquemine.
