Sakakawea Scenic Byway
A 23-mile official North Dakota state scenic byway on ND-200A linking Washburn and Stanton along the Missouri River valley. The route follows the riverway explored by Lewis and Clark in 1804–06 and passes Fort Clark State Historic Site, the site of the Mandan and Hidatsa villages where the expedition wintered and Sakakawea joined. The road delivers sweeping views of the Missouri River valley floor and the Lake Sakakawea reservoir — relatively rare open-water vistas for a plains state. Short total distance makes it a natural add-on loop from Bismarck or when connecting to the Killdeer Mountain Four Bears Byway to the west.
